showtime

there were more people dressed to the shanghai theme than I expected. towards the end of the night, I got some of them up on stage for the best dressed couple, best dressed male & best dressed female competition.
I was afraid that the games session will be lukewarm. But looking at the photos, you could tell that not only the contestants enjoyed themselves. The other guest also had a wild time!

accidental wedding singer

That's my dad stealing the limelight from me. He wanted to show off his singing skills. So I let him go on stage and performed a few songs. He even got a rose from a small fan on stage.

yam seng!

we opted out of the traditional "yam seng" toast. We felt that I will me meaningless as only the people on stage will the shouting their asses off, while the other guest will just stand there.
So after popping the champane, we just went about he tables to thank the guests. We didn't even take group photos at each individual tables as we were afraid that that will take up alot time and we will not have enough time to play games

shanghai mobster

we wanted to do away with the 2nd march-in. actually we wanted to even do away with the 1st march-in. what's the deal with march-ins anyway? seems kinda silly as we are not celebrities.

However Fang wanted us to make our presence felt since we are wearing outfits that is the theme for the night.

a little dream band

First thing that I must say is that the ballroom PA sound system did injustice to the band and Bevlyn's beautiful voice.

Bevlyn said that the ballroom's sound system is good enough for them, just so that I can save money on hiring a mobile sound system that costs a couple of hundreds. So thoughtful of her. I am sure with a much better sound system, they will sound heavenly.

I liased all details with Bevlyn over the phone prior to the wedding and met her only 30mins before the 1st guest arrived. I was simply too busy to meet her up before that day.

The Band was certainly very obliging to my every request. The band played all the Mandarin shanghai jazz favourites with ease, as well as the English evergreen songs and the contempory songs that I requested. When I requested for Bevln to be dressed in a cheongsum for my Shanghai Chic dress theme, she gamely agreed without even looking at the cheongsums first. She even took the time and effort to travel to my store at Marina Square for the fitting.

Bevlyn also doubled as the night's emcee. I didn't give Bevlyn any scripts nor programme schedule. Just very impromptu. Bevlyn had to come up with last minute lines and cope with last minute changes throughout the evening. Fortunately she is experienced enough handle any situation.

march in

Finally! After all the preparations this is the moment. Thought I will be nervous prior to the march-in. However I was unexceptionally calm. Not even very excited. Maybe the prior events on that day had numbed me. I was also not feeling well on that day. I was like a walking zombie.

guest!guest!guest!

We had a lucky draw segment to entice the guest to come early. registration was only opened during the cocktail reception from 7:00-7:30pm.
we planned for a total of 30tables. but as the wedding date got nearer, the guest list grew and we called to hotel to increase the number of tables to 33tables. Unexpectly, some guest brought along spouses and kids and the final count became 35 tables.
With the increase in the number of tables, there was chaos and a queue formed at the reception! My brothers and cousin were totally stressed out!

ballroom set

Initially we wanted to choose the black table linen with red table tunner. It looks really chic and unconventional. However my Dad is SUPER superstitious and some close relatives were also against the idea.

we thought that it's our wedding and should choose what we like, regardless of that our parents or the guests think.
After much consideration we decided not to insist on our ways as we figure that it's not worth making so many people unhappy just by insisting on our own rights. There were many elderly/superstitious people at the wedding who may take offence.
As an alternative,we came up with a red shanghai chic theme instead. the white linen based table made the whole room looked so common and so un-chic...so boring.
